Healing Camp Feasibility Study

KDFN has secured funding through the Northern Strategy Trust (NST) to carry out the feasibility study for a therapeutic community resource, also referred to as the land-based Healing Camp. KDFN is partnering with the Yukon Government's Department of Justice to perform the study. Development of the terms of reference for the project is underway and the research is expected to start within 2 months. A location for the healing camp will be decided once the feasibility study is completed.

Yukon Asset Construction Agreements Under Negotiations

  • The Yukon government is obligated to negotiate Yukon Asset Construction Agreements with KDFN as per provisions identified in Chapter 22 of the Final Agreement. The purpose of each YACA is to generate training and employment benefits for Kwanlin Dün through Yukon government construction projects that take place on Kwanlin Dün land.
  • Currently, there are several YAC Agreements being negotiated between Kwanlin Dün and Yukon government. These include:
    • Construction of the Healing Centre ($32M)
    • The Airport Terminal Expansion ($16M)
    • The Affordable Family Complex ($13M)
    • The Grizzly Valley Subdivision ($5M)
  • Through these negotiations, the KDFN can negotiate sole-source contracts for portions of the projects, possibly have assets built on KDFN land and negotiate other benefits as long as they are relate to the project and help Kwanlin Dün build capacity and create employment.
  • With the creation of the Joint Venture; KDFN with its partner, Dominion Construction Inc. now has the capacity and skills to take on the management of large projects, which will greatly increase KDFN’s ability to build capacity and generate employment.

Airport Parking Lot Landscape Contract

In partnership with Yukon Gardens, KDFN is currently undertaking the new landscaping at the Whitehorse International Airport parking lot. This sole-sourced contract is one of the benefits a result of the YACA negotiations related to the expansion of the airport parking lot that took place last year.
