Economic Development - KDFN Opportunities in Correctional Redevelopment

KDFN has engaged the joint consultant group of Hanson/Zanasi/Walsh in order to identify the most advantageous opportunities within the Government of Yukon’s Correctional Redevelopment Project.

Providing well-researched advice, this joint group will report to KDFN on how to proceed in its involvement with the construction and operations of new correctional facilities including a main correctional centre, an adjunct facility to house elders and to accommodate family visits, and a separate land-based healing facility.

KDFN plans to be informed of:

  • What opportunities should be pursued;

  • What are the steps required to move forward on each of those opportunities;

  • What sort of partnership arrangements could be involved; and

  • How will KDFN manage the entire process in an effective way.

By participating in the Government of Yukon’s Correctional Redevelopment Project, KDFN will achieve short-to-medium-term economic benefits for the government and citizens of KDFN, and secure long-term benefits by developing the capacity to take on various projects in the future.

In order to get input from the KDFN community the consultant is holding interviews, seeking input from elders and organizing family meetings.
