Administrator, Dusk’a Head Start Family Learning Centre

Salary: $32.61 to $40.83 per hour (Level 5) plus benefits

Position Type: Full-Time Term to June 2019 (with possible 6 month extension)

The purpose of the Dusk’a Head Start Family Learning Centre (the Centre) is to provide a holistic service, inclusive of both families and caregivers into the child development process. The centre’s goal is to respond to special and individual child development needs while building a strong sense of place, belonging and self-identity in respect to language and culture. The core program for the Centre is based on the Aboriginal Head Start Program with an emphasis on whole family learning, aboriginal language and culture, and support for individual and special needs.

The services offered by the Centre demand a high level of professional and personal skills with corresponding expectations in regard to professional qualifications and personal wellness.

Reporting to the Centre’s Manager, the Administrator is responsible for organizing, facilitating, overseeing, and administering a diverse range of services supporting the operations of the Centre. Supporting services include: Financial Administration; an Auxiliary Staffing Program to build community capacity in ECD; Volunteer and Temporary Services; Aboriginal Culture and Language; Facility Maintenance; Special Events; Parent/Caregiver Liaison Services; and Research. The Administrator must demonstrate superior organizational skills, maintain effective working relationships with parents/caregivers, colleagues and allied professionals, and adhere to childcare policies, regulations established practices. The position actively participates in ongoing early learning program initiatives and early cultural and aboriginal language learning.

Essential Qualifications:
• Level III Early Childhood Education Certification or equivalent with at least 2 years of diversified administrative experience including supervisory and work experience in a Day Care/Learning Centre setting;
• Proven financial administration skills including the ability to read and understand complex financial statements, prepare financial reports, cash flows and budgets and perform routine financial transactions;
• Proven proposal, report writing, research, and event planning skills;
• Well-developed client, interagency and community relations skills;
• Knowledge of community development principles as they apply to whole family learning and child development;
• Awareness of social issues affecting First Nations and non-First Nations children;
• Knowledge of Kwanlin Dün history, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations;
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements, related programs, services and funding sources under Territorial and
Federal Governments, and other agencies.

Job Requirements & Conditions of Employment:

• Satisfactory pre-employment security clearance with vulnerable sector search;
• Willingness to travel and willingness to work weekends or after hours;
• An acceptable criminal records check with vulnerable sector clearance;
• A valid First Aid certificate;
• Medical clearance ’fit to work’ designation & TB test;
• Current immunization record;
• Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s license is required, Class 4 license is desirable;
• Acceptance of Oath of Confidentiality; Conflict of Interest Guidelines and KDFN Personnel Policies;
