Salary: $25.00 per hour or $200.00 per day (dependent on the event)

We are seeking qualified Auxiliary on Call Cooks to supplement our relief pool. Cooks are responsible for menu preparation, adherence to budget, food preparation and presentation, including traditional foods. Maintaining a clean kitchen, abiding by health and safety regulations at all times are requirements of the job. Team work, and demonstrating wellness are all components of the position. As the head cook you will be responsible for supervising and mentoring cook helpers, and delegating duties to the kitchen staff assigned to assist with the above.

Cooking for events taking place at our Cultural Centre, Nàkwät’à Kų̀ Potlatch House, Jackson Lake Healing Camp or other locations within KDFN traditional territory in camp or culinary kitchen environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate respect to attendees, staff, clients and all people. Excellent interpersonal and time management skills are required. Confidentiality is very important for our clients and guests, and must be abided by at all times when supporting land based healing or similar programming.

Job Qualifications:
• Culinary Arts certification from YT College or equivalent is an asset; minimum of Food Safe Level 1 (Level 2 preferred) and combined with significant experience overseeing support staff in a kitchen is required;
• WHIMIS certification
• Recent camp cooking experience is an asset;
• Experience preparing menus within allotted budgets;
• Experience preparing and presenting food while abiding by regulations and quality standards;
• Experience preparing fish and wild game including knowledge of traditional practice;
• Demonstrated reliability (obtained through reference checks).

The cook must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and have reliable transportation.

NOTE: For work at Jackson Lake Healing Camp and other assignments as required, a satisfactory criminal record check must be on file prior to commencement of work.

Job Requirements:
This position requires the incumbent work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekend shifts. Long periods of standing is to be expected. Shifts may be rotational. Demonstrated wellness is required. The ability to lift up to 25 pounds is a requirement of the position.
