Director, Justice

Salary: $90,344 to $120,538 per annum (Level 9) plus benefits

Position Type: Full Time Term (4 years to March 31, 2021)

Description

Reporting to Executive Director this position is responsible for all matters related to justice for the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. We are looking for a strategic leader to move us forward with the political direction and momentum already in place to implement a justice system that re-establishes a sense of balance and harmony within the Nation in justice matters.

Related work specific to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, KDFN community safety and security initiative implementation, and other programs/services linked to justice including criminal justice, family and child welfare, community and land based healing, restorative justice principles and practices round out the portfolio.

Essential Qualifications:
• Degree in Criminology, Law/ Aboriginal Justice or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of successful experience related to family law & support, criminal and community justice or related;
• Demonstrated progressive experience in the justice field;
• Experience implementing land claim and self-government agreements is an asset;
• Law making experience and experience with alternative and restorative justice measures;
• Experience policy development and implementation;
• Successful experience working within the formal justice system in the areas of family law, criminal law including child welfare and youth justice, adult protection, probations and community wellness;
• Experience in financial management and staff supervision;
• Demonstrated experience with case management, mediation, conflict resolution & counselling;
• Facilitation skills and experience lead meetings, awareness forums, workshops and seminars;
• Experience working in partnership with other criminal justice agencies, First Nations and the RCMP;
• Working knowledge and practical application of community justice philosophies, Canadian Criminal Code and Youth Criminal Justice Act, and other justice specific practices in Yukon, and familiarity with National trends is necessary for success in this position;

Knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples history with formal justice, residential and child welfare systems and familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in this position.

An equivalent combination of significant post-secondary schooling (relevant Diploma and coursework) combined with significant experience in the areas identified above will equally be considered.
