Healthy Babies Healthy Generations (HBHG) Family Support Worker

Salary: 33.69 – 42.18 per hour (Level 5)

Position Type: Full Time Term to March 31, 2020 with possible extension.

Closing Date: September 18th, 2019 by 4:30pm

Description

The position provides support to the Community Health Nurse with HBHG Programming, including immunization, well child clinics, nutrition support, and liaises with community members regarding Health Centre programs. The position works with various resource persons within and outside of the community to offer a full range of community-based health promotion, education and support services to families.

We are looking for someone with excellent team work abilities, time management and coordination abilities who is reliable and punctual. You will also have solid communication skills, and demonstrates a healthy lifestyle.

Qualifications:
• Community Health Representative Training (1-2 years) or Health Care Assistant training with additional community health training is desirable;
• Education in the area of breastfeeding, prenatal care and postpartum depression;
• A minimum one year of work experience in a community health facility with a pre-natal or post-natal focus, preferably in a First Nations setting;
• Experience successfully using the following medical assessment tools: breast pump, thermometer, weigh scales;
• Experience handling and transporting laboratory specimens;
• Experience scheduling appointments, daily reporting activities and prioritizing duties in a timely manner;
• Experience assisting with case management and needs assessment;
• Knowledge of the impacts of residential schools, intergenerational trauma and the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action.

For success in the role one must have an in-depth knowledge of aboriginal health and social issues, have knowledge of Federal & Territorial Government regulatory requirements and knowledge of Yukon First Nation history, culture, demographics, goals & aspirations.

Conditions of Employment: you must have a valid Class 4 Driver’s license, reliable transportation and maintain a clean driver’s abstract for this position; TB Test; First Aid and CPR; Food Safe – Level 1; Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Clearance; Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate (or willingness to obtain within 3 months); Immunization record; Doctor’s Note stating “fit for work;” WHMIS is an asset; and the ongoing ability to demonstrate and maintain a healthy life style and role modelling.

Job Requirements: ability to demonstrate and maintain a healthy, self-sufficient lifestyle; physical ability to sit, stand, and safely lift up to 50 pounds; ability to assist clients with mobility challenges.
