Justice Support Worker Trainee

Salary: $29.42 – 35.30 per hour (Level 4)

Position Type: 3 year term anticipated

Closing Date: Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 4:30pm.


This position is funding dependent.
The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who wish to be considered for the Justice Support Worker Trainee position within the Department of Justice.

We are seeking an individual who has a positive attitude, is motivated, highly organized with a strong work ethic, and ability to support a team environment. Reporting to the Justice Support Worker or designate, the Justice Support Worker Trainee will learn about developing support systems and providing access to resources for adult and young offenders in the KDFN community.
Relationship building with clients as well as external agencies will be critical for success in this position with the goal of overall building community infrastructure, strong family and strong community relations.

Job requirements & conditions of employment:
• Citizen of Kwanlin Dün First Nation, benefactor, or other documented First Nation (must declare for funding, a status number is required)
• Must be ALFA eligible;
• 15-29 years of age to meet funding specifications;
• Compliance with KDFN personnel policies and mandatory confidentiality;
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s license;
• Must be willing to submit an acceptable criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
• Completion of grade 10 or equivalent, additional education and course work may be considered an asset;
• Registered as a full time student during the preceding academic year (preferably within Criminology or other related Social Science field);

Considerations for this opportunity include:
• Able to work under the direction and guidance of the Justice Support Worker;
• Having good working knowledge of Microsoft systems including MS Word, Excel and Outlook;
• Demonstrating a genuine interest in justice support work as a possible future career path;
• Experience writing and doing research for business or academic purposes is an asset;
• Able to build and maintain relationships;
• Able to work cooperatively and courteously in a team environment;
• Positive attitude, enthusiasm, and an exemplary work ethic;
• Keen willingness to learn, and take initiative in the workplace;
