Manager, Child & Family Support Services

Salary: $82,464 to $111,839 per annum + employer paid benefits

Kwanlin Dün First Nation (KDFN) is Justice Department is growing! The Manager, Child & Family Support Services will focus on researching, designing and developing a community safe home, respite and family care model, with the goal of implementation in the near future. This program will provide culturally appropriate child, youth and family programs, services and support for the citizens of KDFN.

We are looking for an individual who has solid program design, development and implementation skills. You will have experience developing and implementing care model programs and child welfare prevention services.
The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and have the ability to maintain and enhance partnerships already in place with Family and Children Services (FCS) 24-hour child protection services, and family justice support counterparts. Working harmoniously with other justice-based and inter-departmental staff is essential for success.

• Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Youth Justice, Criminology, Aboriginal Justice or equivalent;
• Demonstrated progressive experience in the child & family justice fields with a minimum of 7 years current experience;
• Solid program research, development and implementation experience;
• Current supervisory & finance management experience is required; the ability to provide clinical supervision is an asset;
• Experience with case management, client advocacy, mediation & conflict resolution in the child, youth or the family justice context;
• Experience negotiating, maintaining and monitoring a variety of agreements and reporting;
• Successful experience working in partnership with other justice agencies including Yukon Government, other First Nations and the RCMP is essential;
• Knowledge of indigenous family justice and restorative processes are required; experience working within is an asset.

The incumbent must have a solid working knowledge of community justice philosophies, relevant territorial legislation including Yukon Child & Family Service legislation and other justice specific practices in Yukon, and familiarity with National trends.

This is not a developmental opportunity.

Knowledge of and experience working successfully in a First Nation community is an asset. Knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples history with formal justice, residential and child welfare systems and familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, values, goals and aspirations is required for success in this position.

Conditions of Employment & Job Requirements: Acceptable pre-employment criminal records check with vulnerable sector search; Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and personal transportation (we do not have a pool of fleet vehicles); ability to work in a call out rotation, including evening & weekend hours to deal with critical community matters.
