Description

The Kwanlin Dün First Nation is seeking applications for those who wish to be considered for the School Crossing Guard. Reporting to the Manager of Education, this position is responsible for the safety of the students crossing the road to attend Elijah Smith School. The School Crossing Guard will be a positive role model and leader to the KDFN children. The program will operate seasonally during the days that the school is open, from September until June (10 months).

Job requirements & conditions of employment:
• Willingness to work split shifts;
• Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time;
• Working outdoors with exposure to weather elements;
• Constant attention (both sight and hearing) to identify hazards;
• Clear criminal records check with vulnerable sector check;
• Current First Aid/CPR certification;
• Valid Yukon driver’s license is an asset.

Considerations for this opportunity include:

• Completion of eighth grade; or equivalent schooling and experience to perform essential duties of the job;
• Knowledge of Yukon Traffic Laws, basic safe driving rules and procedures, and emergency procedures;
• Experience working with primary age children, specifically KDFN citizens;
• Ability to gain the attention and cooperation of school children and other pedestrians;
• Ability to communicate effectively;
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
• Ability to work effectively with supervisor, children, parents, and school employees;
• Ability to observe and record license numbers and incident details accurately;
• Knowledge of KDFN history, culture, demographics, goals and aspirations;
