Kwanlin Dün youth have been working over the last few months to develop and deliver a workshop on lateral violence in First Nation communities and all communities.
They are instigating change in our community and moving lateral violence to lateral kindness.
Lateral violence includes bullying, backstabbing, ignoring, belittling, name calling, blaming, gossiping, spreading rumours and putting people down.
What is lateral violence? Lateral violence happens when someone who is suffering from the pain of colonization, oppression, racism, and inter-generational trauma, redirects that negativity towards their family, friends and members of their community.
Unfortunately, it thrives in many communities, including First Nation communities. Fortunately, Kwanlin Dün First Nation youth are doing something about this!
