Gary Bailie - Kwanlin Koyotes Ski Club

Gary Bailie is the coach/administrator/mentor/Role model for the Kwanlin Koyotes Ski Club, run out of Kwanlin Dün First Nation.  Gary’s winning results are not in the number of races his athletes have won or competed in, it’s in his commitment to positive recreation and healing that he and the sport provides his youth.

Gary was once a National Junior Team Ski member and was taught from the legendary Father Michaud.  Gary has brought his holistic beliefs and teachings to the Kwanlin Koyotes Ski Club.  He was the founding member of the club, developed and cut all the trails within the Kwanlin Dün community, built an excellent club house, and regularly teaches over 20 youth in skiing, orienteering, and holistic development.  His motto is to bring the youth back to the land, increase self esteem, and promote healing through recreation.  He doesn’t strive to have his athletes reach National stardom, but rather entices the youth to become involved in a healthier lifestyle.

Every year Gary organizes a Ski Loppett exchange with Old Crow, where skiers come to Kwanlin Dün to ski and partake in cultural festivities, and his skiers also visit Old Crow.  He regularly brings National team members to Old Crow with him to train the youth, as well as serve as a role model.

The citizens of Kwanlin Dün First Nation are lucky to have Gary in their community and take an active role in developing the community’s youth in a healthy lifestyle - Mind - Body - Spirit.
