Marsh Lake Graffiti wall and Comment box
There is a "Graffiti Wall" and a comment box in KDFN's main admin building for people who want to share their thoughts on the future of Marsh Lake area. Drop by KDFN between now and November 5th to write or draw some thoughts about your vision for this part of our Traditional Territory (the graffiti wall and comment box will be at Nàkwät’à Kù during the General Assembly).
There will also be a "focus tea" about Marsh Lake on November 4th from 1-4 pm at Nàkwät’à Kù (see listing under "events").
What is the Marsh Lake Plan?
KDFN lands are 48.6% of the Marsh Lake Local Area. A plan will help guide what type of land uses will be allowed on this land (or will not be allowed). Under KDFN's Self-Government Agreement, it says we can do "local area planning" in the Marsh Lake area, along with the Yukon government.
The Marsh Lake Local Area Plan is being developed with community input between June 2011 and the summer of 2012. You can learn more by visiting the
Plan Marsh Lake website.
Who is leading this planning process?
The
Marsh Lake Local Area Planning Steering Committee was set up by Government of Yukon and Kwanlin Dün to guide the planning process and develop a draft plan through a public process. The Steering Committee includes three Kwanlin Dün First Nation representatives and three Marsh Lake residents appointed by Government of Yukon.
