Kwanlin Dun Badminton Coach, Ray Sidney and Badminton players prepare to leave for the 2008 North American Indigenous Games in Lake Cowachin, B.C. on August 2nd. Among the KDFN badminton players were Sarina and Charli-Rae Sydney and Taylor Vallevand. KDFN Councillor, Jessie Dawson attended the send-off ceremonies at Elijah Smith Elementary School to wish our athletes good luck in the competition. KDFN athletes "had a lot of enthusiasm and were positive ambassadors for Kwanlin Dun at the Games" says Coach Ray Sydney. Charli-Rae and Taylor each captured Bronze medals in their division and Sarina came in fourth in all of the divisions that she entered. The athletes were grateful to Kwanlin Dun First Nation for the $250 travel expense they each received from the First Nation.
Ray says all of the Badminton players are continuing to play and perfect their performances in the sport with hopes to participate in the 2011 North American Indigenous Games in Wisconsin.
