Why should every adult Beneficiary vote?

Usually, something is approved if over half of the people who fill out a ballot vote yes.

For example, in an election the person who gets the most votes wins, even if only a small number of community members actually voted.

However, KDFN’s constitution [section 16 (10)] says that at least a majority of all Beneficiaries entitled to vote in the referendum must vote Yes.

This means that if less than a majority of the adult Beneficiaries vote, the policies can’t be approved (even if everyone who voted said YES)!

So if you are a beneficiary who is 18 or older by the day of the referendum, please vote! Let KDFN know what you think of the policies by voting YES or NO.

If less than the majority of the adult Beneficiaries vote, then policies will not be approved and another referendum will need to be held in the future. This would cost KDFN money.

Also, KDFN will not be able to allow long-term use of Settlement Land or invest or use Settlement monies in effective ways until the policies required by the constitution are approved.
