No, this referendum is NOT about payouts. This referendum is a vote on three policies (the Settlement Land Policy, the Investment Governance Policy and the Consultation Policy Statement) which need to be approved before KDFN can manage and use its Final Agreement lands and money for the benefit of all KDFN beneficiaries.

Why haven’t beneficiaries been consulted on these policies before now?

KDFN Beneficiaries have been involved in developing these policies. The three policies were drafted by working groups of KDFN beneficiaries and the wording was finally approved at a beneficiaries meeting in September 2009. The KDFN Constitution says that the policies had to be developed first and then a referendum vote held to approve each policy.
