Reporting to the Director of Community Services, the Public Buildings and Property Manager is responsible for all KDFN government infrastructure and municipal operations. This position oversees, maintains, and inspects all designated buildings and properties. The incumbent works closely with the Director and other department managers to ensure KDFN maintains the value and integrity of KDFN property assets.
Components of the job include: managing the custodial and janitorial services to all buildings; inspecting buildings and properties to ensure maintenance, repair and alteration/renovation is in keeping with the needs and standards of KDFN, the occupying departments and the community at large. This position is also responsible for maintaining operating data on the buildings, monitoring the planned maintenance for each building, approving direct operating expenses and monitoring/identifying anomalies requiring actions.
Managing public works and upgrades within the McIntyre, Crow, and Swan subdivisions by partnering with service providers to maintain city sidewalks, streets, roads, street lights, service installations, and bus stops. Managing KDFN public property by maintaining parking lots, gravesites, playgrounds, recreational sites, traditional grounds, and green spaces. In addition, this position co-ordinates special projects or programs including on-going Fire Smart projects and staff supervision, annual community clean-up, and other miscellaneous projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- A minimum of 5 years of successful progressive experience in building maintenance and/or commercial property management. Journeyperson certified (certified carpenter, electrician, plumber) or equivalent would be an asset;
- Experience with modern Building Management Systems (BMS)
- Experience managing and supervising staff;
- Budget management experience;
- Knowledge of and experience in property and asset maintenance;
- Experience with regular and ad hoc reporting including providing input to a variety of reports for various agencies;
- Experience utilizing computer systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, and data base software;
- Solid oral and written communication skills including experience writing reports (daily, monthly and annual) on building maintenance and property management activities.
An equivalent combination of workshops and training, and experience in the above areas will be equally considered.

- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Good judgment, tact and courtesy
- Good communication skills including the ability to train and mentor staff, write reports and deal with citizens, contractors and consultants

- Financial and material management skills
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.
Conditions of Employment & Job Requirements: An acceptable criminal records check; Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and acceptable driver’s abstract; Compliance with KDFN Personnel and Occupational Health & Safety policies; WHMIS & Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) are assets
Job Requirements: Occupational health and safety coursework including but not limited to the maintenance of the following COR required certificates: Leadership for Safety Excellence; Industrial workplace safety training and/or construction site safety training.
Salary: $82,464.20 to $140,995.40 per annum ($45.31 – $77.47 per hour) – Level 8 *plus benefits
