Kwanlin Dün First Nation requires a permanent Medical Office Assistant at Natsékhi Kú Healing House (Health Centre). Reporting to the Manager of Health Promotion, the Medical Office Assistant is a key team member at the Centre, coordinating primary care provider visits, booking appointments, managing the Plexia EMR system and working with clients and staff. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to demonstrate their excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, proven high-quality service and understanding of the importance of confidentiality in working with sensitive and confidential information.
Required Qualifications (what we look for on your resume): An equivalent combination of post-secondary education (i.e.: Diploma), combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified above, will equally be considered.
- Completion of an Office Administrative program with medical office specialization, Medical Office Assistant program or equivalent, with 2 years of experience providing administrative support in a health setting
- Working knowledge and experience with medical terminology is required
- Knowledge and experience working with Plexia or other similar electronic medical record system is an asset
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software, including Word, Excel; Outlook
- Experience in handling confidential and highly sensitive information; understanding of applicable data privacy laws
- Knowledge of Kwanlin Dun First Nations heritage and culture, social structure, language and traditions is required
- Knowledge of the impacts of residential schools, intergenerational trauma and the Truth & Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action
- Knowledge of Yukon Health and Social agencies and other resources available for referrals
An equivalent combination of education and training, and considerable experience in the above areas will be equally considered.
Required knowledge and skills (what we assess/may interview on):
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork
- Able to manage time efficiently and prioritize multiple competing tasks;
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy and follow privacy legislation;
- Ability to remain calm and assist in conflict crisis situations;
- Use of certain medical equipment
- Experience maintaining accurate records and ensuring data integrity
Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations are required for success in the role.
Conditions of employment:
An acceptable criminal records check;
- Standard First Aid and CPR; Valid Yukon Class 5 Driver’s license is required;
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Certificate (willingness to obtain within first 3 months of employment);
- Acceptable Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector search,
- Valid Standard First Aid & CPR-C
- HIPMA Training
- FIPPA (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act) Training
- Valid Yukon class 5 driver’s license & acceptable driver’s abstract
Job Requirement:
- Lifting or moving of equipment of up to 25 pounds independently.
