  • Full-Time (70 hrs biweekly), Permanent

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining KDFN’s Occupational Health and Safety and Emergency Preparedness Programs. The position provides expertise and coordination in the areas of safety compliance, prevention, incident management, risk reduction, and workplace well-being.

Required Qualifications (what we screen/look for on your resume):  An equivalent combination of post-secondary education, combined with significant current/lived experience in the areas identified below, will equally be considered.

  • Grade 12 combined with relevant post‑secondary coursework and OH&S training (e.g., COR – Leadership for Safety Excellence, Principles of Health & Safety Management, Internal Auditor Training, Health & Safety Administration, WHMIS).
  • Considerable experience working in an OH&S environment such as government, corporate safety, or workers’ compensation.
  • Considerable experience developing and maintaining OH&S policies and procedures.
  • Experience applying federal and territorial OH&S legislation (Canada Labour Code Part II, Canadian OH&S Regulations, Yukon OH&S Act and Regulations).
  • Experience facilitating meetings and/or training workshops is an asset.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or equivalent is an asset.

Knowledge and skills (what we may assess/interview on):

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in developing and implementing OH&S policies, procedures, and work plans.
  • Effective investigative, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities, including incident review and root‑cause analysis.
  • Confident facilitator with experience leading meetings, training sessions, and safety discussions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal judgment, including conflict resolution, de‑escalation, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proficient with computer programs used to track, manage, and communicate OH&S information.

Knowledge of Yukon First Nations history within formalized education systems, residential schools and on-going intergenerational effects specific to education and social programming is an asset. Familiarity with Kwanlin Dün First Nation history, culture, goals and aspirations is required for success in the role.

Conditions of Employment: 

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and personal transportation.
  • Must model safe behaviour and wear PPE as required.
