Youth Council

Who sits on Youth Council

Every Citizen who is at least 14 years of age, and not yet 20 years of age, is a member of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation Youth Council, and is entitled to participate in any meeting of the Youth Council.

Each member of the Youth Council has equal authority and rights.

Youth Council powers

The Kwanlin Dün First Nation Youth Council may:

  • give advice and guidance to the Kwanlin Dün First Nation
  • appoint one member of the Youth Council to sit as a non-voting member of the Council; and
  • appoint a person to sit as a non-voting observer at Judicial Council meetings.

Youth Council spokesperson

At its first meeting of a calendar year, the Youth Council must choose one of its members to serve as its spokesperson until the following year.

The spokesperson is responsible to:

  • preside over any meeting of the Youth Council if they are present,
  • report to Council and to the General Assembly on behalf of the Youth Council
  • perform any other task assigned by the KDFN Constitution or its laws.

The spokesperson of the Youth Council must convene at least one meeting of the Youth Council during each calendar year. Meetings must be held within KDFN Traditional Territory.
