This week, youth from KDFN, Ta’an and CTFN are spending time out at Sky High Wilderness Ranch and Łu Zil Män for the first every Fish and Aquatic Stewardship Week. This program ties science and cultural practice together – participants have learned fish anatomy, taken fish tissue samples to test for mercury, set nets to catch trout on the lake and made fish leather. Today, Charles Waugh and Norman Shorty joined the group to share their fileting skills; while Elders Russel Burns and Nina Bolton shared stories by the fire. Tomorrow, they’re heading out fly-fishing.
