Beef or Moose Jerky

A top-of-the-line beef or moose jerky recipe that can be done in just 12 hours. Sliced rump roast is marinated in soy sauce, brown sugar, and liquid smoke then dried in a dehydrator.
Submitted by Richard Sasseville Prep Time: 30 mins
Cook Time: 12 hrs Additional Time: 30 mins Total Time: 13 hrs Servings: 6

Ingredients

  1. 3 pounds rump roast
  2. 3 cups soy sauce
  3. 3 cups packed brown sugar
  4. 4 fluid ounces hickory-flavoured liquid smoke

Directions

  1. Slice roast into slabs approximately 1/4-inch thick. Note: you can have this done at the grocery store or butcher. Trim off all of the fat from the edges. Cut the slabs into pencil-like strips, about 1/4-inch wide and about 4 inches long.
  2. Combine soy sauce, brown sugar, and hickory-flavoured liquid smoke in a large bowl; blend well. Place all of the meat into the bowl of marinade. Cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  3. Place meat strips in a food dehydrator for about 12 to 20 hours, depending on how dry you like your jerky. Rotate the trays after 6 hours. For example: Bottom tray on top, top tray on bottom, second tray from bottom to be second tray from top, and so on.

How to Make Homemade Playdough

Ingredients

  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. ¾ cup salt
  3. 4 teaspoons cream of tartar
  4. 2 cups lukewarm water
  5. 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil coconut oil works too

Optional: food coloring I use Wilton for brighter colors

Instructions

Stir together the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a large pot. Next add the water and oil. If you’re only making one color, stir in the the color now. Cook over medium-heat, stirring constantly. Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and begins to form into a ball. Remove from heat and then place inside a bowl. Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth. If you’re adding multiple colors, divide the dough into balls for how many colors you want and then add the dough into separate quart sized bags. Start with about 5 drops of color and add more to brighten it. Knead the dough, while inside the bag so it doesn’t stain your hands. Once it’s all mixed together, you’re ready to PLAY. Store the play dough inside the bags to keep soft. If stored properly it will keep soft for up to 3 months.
