(Life in a Brush Camp)
When I was a yées shaawát, ax̱ een.aaxʼw travelled and aʼlóon from place to place by keitl team.

(When I was a little girl my family hunted and travelled from place to place by dog team.)
Ax̱ éesh and ax̱ tláa would bundle us up in a tʼáa xátʼaa, so we would be g̱atʼaat and tlél máa sá haa ng̱waneet. How I wriggled to get out!

(Mom and dad would bundle us up and tie us in the toboggan, so we would be warm and safe. How I wriggled to get out!)
When it started getting dark, we would stop and set up cháash hít. Ax̱ éesh ḵa ax̱ tláa would dig out a place hasdu jáaji een.

(When it started getting dark, we would stop and set up a brush camp. Mom and dad would dig out a place with their snowshoes.)
Aag̱áa they would make násʼk sides with cháash and put xwaasdáa over the top. Ax̱ éesh would make a x̱ʼaan out front. We would put cháash on the floor.

(Next they would make three sides with brush and put canvas over the top. Dad would make a fire out front. We would put branches on the floor.)
Ax̱ tláa cooked dleey tax̱héeni and aatlein of tʼoosʼ, so there would be some left for tsʼootaat atx̱aayí.

(Mom cooked meat soup and lots of bannock, so there would be some left for breakfast.)
Aag̱áa xáanaa atx̱aayí we would get into haa xʼóowu to sleep with all haa naa.ádi on. Ḵusa.áatʼ. We would even see our breath when we blew out!

(After supper we would get into our blankets to sleep with all our clothes on. It was cold. We would even see our breath when we blew out!)
In the tsʼootaat, ax̱ tláa would get the x̱ʼaan going, thaw out the tʼoosʼ and make másh. Ax̱ een.aaxʼw and I would dance around the x̱ʼaan to get warm.

(In the morning, mom would get the fire going, thaw out the bannock and make porridge. My sisters and I would dance around the fire to get warm!)
Then we would pack up aag̱áa.

When ax̱ éesh would kill a dzískʼw, we would set up a cháash hít and stay there for a while. That was a treat! The dzískʼw dleeyí had to be cut up and dried before we could move aag̱áa.

(After supper we would get into our blankets to sleep with all our clothes on. It was cold. We would even see our breath when we blew out!)

(When dad would kill a moose, we would set up a tent and stay there for a while. That was a treat! The moose had to be cut up and dried before we could move again.)

(That was our life; travelling and hunting. I was pretty young then, but I remember all this.)
