Notice to the KDFN People and Candidates: As Kwanlin Dün First Nation approaches Election Day, we would like to remind all citizens, candidates, and supporters of the importance of conducting ourselves with respect, integrity, and lateral kindness.
Running for leadership is an important act of service to KDFN people, and we thank all candidates who have stepped forward. At the same time, the election period must remain respectful and safe for everyone in the KDFN community. Our children and youth are watching, and we all have a responsibility to show them what respectful leadership and care for one another looks like.
The Election Committee and the Chief Returning Officer have received concerns regarding behaviour that does not reflect the values of the KDFN people, including harassment and aggressive conduct. Such behaviour is not acceptable and has no place in the election process.
We ask all candidates, families, and supporters to ensure that campaigning and political discussion are carried out in a respectful manner that honours the dignity and the integrity of the KDFN self-government.
Many candidates have put their names forward, and only a few leadership positions will be filled. Regardless of the outcome, KDFN people will continue to live and work together as one community. Let’s finish this election in a good way — with unity, respect, and kindness.
The Election Committee and Chief Returning Officer remain committed to ensuring a fair, impartial election and to supporting all citizens in exercising their right to vote.
